God’s Spirit is Hovering
Recently, I turned 40. As many do at milestone birthdays, I’ve taken it as a time for reflection. When I reached 40, I imagined that I would have all the answers, life would be figured out, and I would be wearing biz casual attire everywhere, cause that’s what you do, right?
Yet here I am. I have fewer answers than I had 10 years ago. I’m figuring out so much of life, like my career path, boundaries, and what brings me joy. And I couldn’t even tell you the last time I wore a button-up shirt.
A lot of my life has felt formless over the past few years, embracing change in every area of my identity. I admit it’s caused me to be shaken at times. But then, God. He showed me this familiar verse in a new way.
“The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” Genesis 1:2
Just because, at times, I feel formless, empty, or in the dark, the truth is God’s Spirit is hovering over me, moving in ways unseen in the deepest waters of my soul.
I don’t know what this next year will be like, but I’m coming to terms that I don’t need to know. All God asks of me is to show up and trust Him to go where He leads. His Spirit is hovering.
Prayer: Father God, Remind me in the unsure places, the empty places, and the formless places that your Spirit is hovering. I accept and embrace wherever you will take me today.
