Fighting Burnout

I’ve loved Jesus since I was a little girl and for nearly as long as that, I wanted to do something in ministry. I eagerly engaged in all the church things growing up. This past year, I finally see the fruit of my heart’s longing. Now serving as pastor for a year, while simultaneously working towards my graduate degree in missional multiplication, I see God’s gift to me in the timing. There were seasons I needed to go through before I could reach the season of today.

It can be easy in this season to experience overwhelm and burnout, as I shared earlier this week. But, when I serve from a place of fullness - the place of God’s presence and mercy, practicing His rest, and owning my identity as a child of God - I find burnout fades away.

“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31, CSB

When I trust the Lord to guide my steps, I know that he lifts me up, gives me renewed energy for the day’s work ahead of me. It’s when I am seeking out my own pleasure or affirmation in those same things, it often clogs up God’s ability to fill me and flow through me… because there’s too much ME in the way.

Dear God, thank you for your life that you breath in me to serve your kingdom while I am on this earth. I pray that you would continue to lift me up as I trust you. Guide my steps for I am lost without you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
