Waiting for God’s Timing

How do we know it’s time for us to move forward? I admit that if God told me what was ahead of me, I would be the one to race ahead, far before I’m ready for it, like an eager child who sees the goodness of something trivial. I get caught up with the little pleasures right in front of me, rather than waiting for the good from God when I keep my gaze focused on him and wait.

After Noah and his family had been on the ark for well over six months, they came to rest on a mountain. Noah could have taken this as his sign they were in the clear, unhatched the door, and met a watery grave.

But he waited patiently. He sent out a dove, not once but three times. The dove hovered over the flooded waters to see if the time was present for Noah and his family to leave the safety of their temporary home into what God was birthing out of the destruction.

As the dove hovered over the waters, looking for a bit of dry ground and a place of safety for Noah and his family, so I ask the Spirit of God today to hover over my future. I will choose to stay in the protection of God’s dwelling patiently until he shows me there is a safe next step for me to take.

Prayer: Father God, Reveal to me when it’s time for me to move forward into the next step of the future you have planned for me. Remind me the safety of your dwelling place is where you have me today.
