God Equips in His Time

I tend to be an impatient person. Waiting in God’s presence is hard for me. I get eager to do, to take action, and to make something happen. But sometimes, I have experienced seasons with such high grief, turmoil, or uncertainty I couldn’t help but just to wait, no matter how much I tried to keep going. 

I imagine this is the place we find the disciples in Acts 2. Within the previous few months, they had witnessed the Messiah crucified on a cross in gruesome death, and, just as they started to grieve, he rose from the dead. What a time for celebration! But also a time for confusion, wondering what’s coming next. During the forty days from Jesus’ resurrection to the time of the ascension, there in the safety of the presence of Jesus, they waited. 

A few days later, God showed up in an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the disciples. This was an equipping and empowering experience for the disciples. This was the sign they could now move forward in the path God had set before them. When it’s time to move out of the season of waiting, the season of grief, the season of uncertainty, God often shows up with undeniable certainty when I wait for his timing. This, ironically, is also when he has equipped me to the fullest for the next part of the journey he has me on.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for your timing. I trust that when it is time for me to take the next step forward, you will make it clear with your Spirit. I trust that you will equip me in your timing to give you glory.
