Palm Sunday: Why a King Matters | 1 Samuel 8:4-9 & Luke 2:29-40
Today, we are going to take a look at the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem and why this is such a symbolic act. If Jesus came to bring salvation and freedom to the whole world, not just to the Jews, but to the Gentiles as well, then why is the world’s recognition of Jesus as king less than a week before his crucifixion significant? And what does this mean for our lives today?
Honoring: Intergenerational Discipleship | Luke 2:25-52
Intergenerational is not the same as multigenerational. What we will be talking about today is more than co-existing within a community or space as different generations, the question isn’t can we tolerate people who are different ages than us. The challenge is: can we approach a multigeneration community, like our church, and experience mutual discipleship from each other.
Sharing: God’s Mission Through Us | Matthew 28:16-20 & Hebrews 13:15-16
Outreach, Missions, and Evangelism are often used interchangeably or even incorrectly. They are all words that can be intimidating, but I believe that is largely because we don’t understand them or their role in the fulfillment of the Gospel.
Pursuing: Discernment & Listening | John 14:23-26
So how in this noisy world are we supposed to listen? And then, how do we take the next step into discernment, that is, deciding deciding and doing what that next step is?
Belonging: Welcome | Hebrews 10:1-25
When I think of times I have felt welcomed, it rarely has to do with the environment I’m greeted in. Sure, it’s lovely to have the right pictures on the walls, the right placement of our furniture, and for the space to be well kept. But when I think of when I’ve felt the most welcomed, whether it be a home or a business or a church, it’s all about how the person or people I interact with make me feel.
Seek Me: Joy | Matthew 2:1-20
Among the nine fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23 – that is, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – I can grasp most of these. But the one that always seems to make my brain spin is JOY. As I’ve shared previously, I have a pre-disposition to depression and melancholy.
Seek Me: Love | Matthew 1:18-25
If you have your Bible, turn with to Matthew 1. Last week, Bob talked about Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph, and today we are going to look a little closer at this man. Even though we don’t know much about Joseph, we do have a few hints about him.
Jesus Sees the Rejected | John 5:2-9 & Luke 8:26-39
At some point in our lives, we have all felt on the outside of the “in” circle. Today we are going to look at a tale of two men and what their stories tell us about the rejected and how we might respond to the world around us.
Response of the Holy Spirit | Galatians 6:1-10
I believe Galatians 5:26-6:10 provides us with application insight on how to live out love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit | 1 Corinthians 12:1-13
When I was a younger mom, raising Brayden through elementary school, I realized I needed to be his advocate on behalf of him with his teachers and administrators.
It was my role to cheer him on, redirect him if necessary, and ensure his work was done.
Follow Me | Luke 9:59-60
August 7, 2020, was a quiet morning. I prepared my coffee and oatmeal, the Holy Spirit brought to my mind the story of Jesus and the man who had to bury his father.
P.R.A.Y. Like Hannah | 1 Samuel 1
When we receive good news or find ourselves blessed with finances, health, children, or title, it can be all too easy to look at those who are the have-nots. We wonder what they aren’t doing right, or we have all the answers and give our advice freely to them. We don’t realize the sting this may cause for something out of their grasp.
