Letting Go of My Effort

Recently, Bob and I when on a trip to Yosemite. It was everything and more than what we had hoped. The majestic mountains and serene landscape reminded us once again of the undeniable glory of God.

While we were out hiking, along one of the trails, I found a sturdy walking stick. This walking stick provided me support and balance as I made my way along the dusty and rocky terrain. As we continued on the path, the journey upward became much steeper as we came close to the dome’s peak. I leaned more and more on that walking stick as a support to move me upward and forward. As I was making my way up, the words “your rod and your staff, they comfort me” came to my mind.

How grateful I was for the comfort of my walking stick at that moment! This staff, lying alongside the path, was not good for much other than maybe firewood, brought me comfort. It aided me in making my way to the top of the dome, where I experienced the most amazing views I have ever taken in, over 8,000 feet up in elevation!

God provides the support I need to make my way into the hard and steep places so that I may experience him in ways I have never even dreamed of before.

Prayer: Father God, Thank you for your ever-present staff to comfort me while I am on this journey. You bring comfort to me through your support and guidance to move me forward and upward closer to you.
